Mum’s Writing a New Book

Well, obviously.  That’s why I’m looking.  Honestly, sometimes Mum doesn’t make any sense.

I tried again a little while later, just in case she’d forgotten that I wanted to see.  “Barney! Get down.  ”Apparently she hadn’t forgotten. 

So I went and sat down with Hunter.  “Mum’s writing another book,” I told him.  “Am I in it?” he asked.  “I don’t know.” “Are you in it?”  “I DON’T KNOW. She won’t let me look.”

Hunter thought about this for a moment.  “Why don’t you look over her shoulder?”  Sometimes I wonder why I bother.

Anyway, we’ve decided there’s definitely something suspicious going on.  Mum keeps tapping away on her laptop and smiling to herself, and every now and then she looks at us.  Then suddenly she made another one of those strange noises.

It started off sounding like someone had sprung a leak.

Pff... pff... pff...

Like air squeezing out of something under very high pressure.  Hunter looked at me.  I looked at Hunter.

Pff... pff... pff...

We both looked at Mum.   Then the leak suddenly turned into a proper laugh.  A REALLY proper laugh.

“What’s she doing now?” Hunter asked.  “No idea.”  I said.  Whatever was on that laptop was obviously very funny.  Later, I heard Mum mention someone called Fergus.

I don’t know who Fergus is.  Hunter doesn’t know who Fergus is.  But apparently Fergus is responsible for Mum springing a leak.

So now we have TWO mysteries.  What is Mum’s new book about?  And...WHO IS FERGUS?

So Hunter and I are keeping watch.  Sooner or later Mum will have to leave her laptop unattended.  She’ll want a cup of green tea eventually.  And when she does...  I’m going in.  I’ll let you know what I find.

P.S. Hunter says if Fergus is getting treats in the new book, he wants some too.  He also still wants to know if books are edible.  I told him no.  He says he’d still like to check.
